Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tasbih?

Tasbih (تسبيح) refers to the act of glorifying Allah through repetitive phrases and also to the prayer beads used for counting. The most common tasbih phrases are SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).

Why say SubhanAllah 33 times?

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught his companions to say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times after each obligatory prayer. This totals 100 and is known as Tasbih Fatimah, as it was taught to Fatimah (RA). The virtue is that one's sins are forgiven even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.

Can I use a digital counter instead of beads?

Yes, scholars agree that using fingers, beads, or digital counters are all permissible for counting dhikr. The Prophet (PBUH) encouraged counting on fingers, saying "Count on your fingers, for they will be questioned and made to speak." Any method that helps you maintain your count is valid.

What is the best time for dhikr?

While dhikr can be done at any time, there are specific recommended times: after the five daily prayers, in the morning after Fajr, in the evening before Maghrib, before sleeping, and during the last third of the night. The Prophet (PBUH) would remember Allah at all times.

What if I lose count?

If you lose count during dhikr, you can estimate or start over from a number you're confident about. The intention and sincerity are what matter most. Using a counter like this one helps prevent losing count and allows you to focus on the meaning of your words rather than the numbers.

Hadith on Remembrance of Allah

"Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, the purest of them in the sight of your Sovereign, the highest of them in your ranks, better for you than spending gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks and they strike yours?" They said: "Of course." He said: "The remembrance of Allah."
